TWBH KITCHEN
you’re invited in
Our kitchens are the heart of our homes. From within these sacred spaces we nourish and heal bodies, minds and souls. But our kitchens are even more than our sanctuaries.
They are The Way Back Home.
I hope you will join me here where I’ll be sharing stories, memories, recipes, and tips from my kitchen.

Homage. Biji played a colossal and far-reaching role in my life. No matter how carefully I choose my words to describe her, they will always fall short of the love I have for her, and the impact she had on me.
Teacher. Biji taught me how to cook. But more than that, she showed me how cooking was a calling of the soul.
Love. Biji inspired me to dedicate my kitchen space and culinary efforts in service of love, hospitality, wellness, creativity, story-telling, culture, community, and our universally shared humanity.
Biji- (beegee) What a Panjabi grandmother is fondly called.
TWBH Kitchen is dedicated to my Biji, Sardarni Kamla Walia

This carrot cake turned out delicious. Moist, sweet and infused with the earthiness of carrots, toasted pecans and walnuts, and ground spices, it was a perfect fall treat. But making the cake appealing to the eye elevated our experience of eating it to the next level.
We first eat with our eyes.
I have posted the best picture from the most flattering angle of this cake here. But don’t be fooled. The inside story is neither one of beauty, or a seamless day of baking. Far from it.

Failure in the TWBH Kitchen is not uncommon.
I call it progress, growth and innovation.
“Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: You will outlive the bastards.”- Edward Abbey
Pleasurable rituals while preparing a feast are sacred to me.
